The four Google employees who’ve quit to found Discovery Loop had a part to play in nearly every AI company one can think of. Dean co-founded and ran Google Brain at its peak of roughly 600 people, before going on to lead Google Research and AI teams that grew to about 4,400 people. Cohere, the Toronto-based enterprise AI company, was co-founded by Aidan Gomez and Nick Frosst, both of whom passed through Google Brain. Alex Wiltschko, who worked on Google’s smell-related machine learning research, started Osmo, a company applying AI to the sense of smell. Gabriel Pereyra co-founded Harvey, the legal AI company that’s become one of the more valuable startups built for a single professional industry.
