Princess Astrid was taken to the National Hospital in Oslo just hours after an official royal engagement on Wednesday. Princess Astrid, Mrs Ferner, had been a guest of honour at the 100th anniversary of the Blindern and Vinderen sanitary association, where she has served as Patron since 1954, working with the organisation to ‘improve women’s health and living conditions.’ Guri Varpe, the Royal Palace’s communications director, released a statement at the time declaring that ‘Princess Astrid needs rest and convalescence after a short illness.’ In a 2022 interview with NRK, she explained that she was motivated by the fact that ‘I can still be useful for something.’ Astrid, who has used a wheelchair since 2022, explained that she still feels more than able to contribute to her charities in a truly meaningful way.
