Levi Whalley, 30, was handed a 12-month suspension order by the Nursing and Midwifery Council's Fitness to Practise Committee following a hearing on July 27 and 28. The panel ruled that while her fitness to practise remains impaired, striking her off would be "disproportionate and unduly punitive" in the circumstances. It described the importation of a large quantity of cannabis as a serious drug-related offence and found her fitness to practise remained impaired on public interest grounds. The NMC had argued a strike-off order was appropriate, saying the offence raised fundamental questions about integrity and trustworthiness. As well as the 12-month suspension order, an interim suspension of 18 months was imposed while any appeal period runs its course.
