Mogadish (WDN) – Former Somali President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed has strongly condemned the violence that erupted Wednesday in Galkayo between Puntland Darwish forces and the Puntland Security Forces (PSF), a militia that Puntland alleges receives support from Somalia’s Federal Government. In a statement released following the clashes, Sharif placed direct responsibility for the unrest on President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, accusing him of pursuing policies that have fueled political tensions and armed confrontations across the country. “I strongly condemn the irresponsibility of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, whose term has expired,” Sharif said. “He bears direct responsibility for the poor judgment that has led to the political tensions and armed violence affecting parts of the country, particularly the city of Galkayo.” Sharif’s remarks add to mounting criticism from opposition leaders over the Federal Government’s handling of Somalia’s deepening political and security crisis.
