Mayor Zohran Mamdani accused House Speaker Mike Johnson of being “deeply out of touch” on Wednesday after the Republican warned that America risked being overrun by “mini Mamdanis” following progressive Abdul El-Sayed’s victory in Michigan. The result sets up a November contest with former Rep. Mike Rogers, a Republican, that could prove pivotal in the fight for control of the Senate. “I don’t think in any way this man is a mini Mamdani,” he continued, praising El-Sayed’s work on public health and health care. But Mamdani neither committed to nor ruled out endorsing El-Sayed or campaigning for him against Rogers this fall. “My focus thus far has been on New York City,” Mamdani said, adding that many New Yorkers had been excited by El-Sayed’s victory.
