HYDERABAD: As technology advances, cybercrimes are adopting new forms while traditional offences like thefts and burglaries in the city account for an annual property loss of around ₹30 crore. Citizens lose over ₹400 crore annually to cybercrimes alone, translating to an average loss of more than ₹1 crore per day to fraudsters, commissioner V.C. Sajjanar said this during Jagrukta Divas and an awareness seminar held for retired employees and senior citizens on Wednesday. Sajjanar highlighted that senior citizens are frequently targeted through digital arrests, pension services and online banking frauds, and advised them never to trust fraudsters. Sajjanar reiterated that no such concept as ‘digital arrest’ existed within Indian law or the police system.
