Somerset Wildlife Trust has launched a £2.15 million appeal to secure the future of Chancellor’s Farm in the Mendip Hills, which is one of the UK’s last remaining wildflower‑rich hay meadows. Around 97% of wildflower meadows have been lost nationally since the 1930s, making Chancellor’s Farm a rare survivor and Somerset’s designated 'Coronation Meadow'. To safeguard the site long term, the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation has bought the land on the Trust’s behalf, giving Somerset Wildlife Trust two years to raise the £2.15 million needed to purchase it outright. Georgia Dent, Chief Executive of Somerset Wildlife Trust, said: "Chancellor’s Farm is an important site for nature’s recovery in the Mendip Hills and in Somerset. She added: "Chancellor’s Farm is a vital core nature rich site for Somerset’s nature to recover, so it is essential it continues to be managed and protected.
