Artists Mint & Mabel and Nat Morley spent three days painting the exterior walls of the volunteer-run bookshop from Friday, July 10 to Sunday, July 12, after being chosen in a public vote. Crowds gathered to watch the artists at work, browse thousands of pre-loved books, records and games, and learn more about the Cotswold Canals Trust’s restoration and conservation projects. Mint & Mabel’s colourful mural highlights the natural beauty and wildlife of the canal corridor, while Nat Morley’s bold artwork explores the biodiversity above and below the water’s surface, depicting species that call the canals home. The commission formed part of the Cotswold Canals Connected arts programme, which aims to celebrate the Stroud Valleys’ waterways and communities. Visitors also took part in an interactive art activity, contributing to a collaborative piece that will be displayed along the canal.
