Economic activity in logistics slowed in July but remained above recent highs, indicating continued strong demand for logistics services nationwide, according to the latest Logistics Managers Index (LMI) report, released this week. The July LMI reading was 68.9, down from June’s reading of 71.1, which was the index’s fastest rate of expansion since March 2022, according to LMI researchers. An LMI reading above 50 indicates expansion across the industry; a reading below 50 indicates contraction. The LMI’s Warehousing Capacity and Transportation Capacity indices both contracted further in July compared to June, falling slightly to 46.3 and 28.4, respectively. It tracks industry growth overall and across eight areas: inventory levels and costs; warehousing capacity, utilization, and prices; and transportation capacity, utilization, and prices.
