Galesburg police released the results of a monthlong speed enforcement campaign this week: 26 speeding citations, one drug arrest, and one fugitive apprehended, among other enforcement actions in July. On Wednesday, July 22, Galesburg police were joined by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and Illinois State Police for a single day of high-visibility enforcement across Galesburg and Knox County. Legate said the officers’ extra hours during the campaign were paid for by the Illinois Department of Transportation and federal traffic safety funds. “Speeding is one of the leading causes of traffic crashes, and the Galesburg Police Department is committed to protecting the community through proactive enforcement and public awareness,” Legate said.
