Ohio take note: Voters in Missouri soundly reject state income tax phase-outVoters in Missouri yesterday decisively defeated a proposal that would have phased out the state income tax and allowed for legislators to expand the sales tax to make up for it. Missourians turned the proposal down by an astonishing 83%-17%, with it losing in every county in the state. “This should send a message to those who are proposing to repeal or further cut the Ohio income tax,” said Hannah Halbert, executive director of Policy Matters Ohio. “We need to raise revenue from those who can afford it, with a stronger income tax on the most affluent,” she said. The Missouri income tax accounts for nearly two-thirds of the state’s general fund.
