Calls for wildfire summit as union explains challenges tackling blazes

It comes after meeting the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) to discuss the growing threat posed by wildfires across north Wales.
Much of the firefighting is still carried out using beaters – rubber mats attached to poles used to extinguish flames by hand.
Mr Ledden said around 70 firefighters were deployed at the height of the recent Conwy wildfire.
It said no aerial support was made available during the recent fires in Wales, despite the potential to reduce pressure on emergency services, limit environmental damage and cut smoke pollution.
It is now calling for a dedicated wildfire summit, arguing current plans do not adequately address the growing risk.
