A recent ambispective cohort study published in the Indian Journal of Gastroenterology in July 2026 reveals that anorectal biofeedback therapy offers highly effective, long-lasting relief for functional defecation disorders (FDD).
Impressively, 61.4% of patients experienced immediate symptom improvement, and 56.4% sustained this relief nearly two years later.
Therefore, the ambispective cohort study tracked 166 adult patients with functional defecation disorders (FDD) who completed six biofeedback sessions between 2018 and 2024.
• Physiological Improvements: Scientists observed a substantial post-treatment increase in both the defecation index and anal relaxation measurements (p < 0.001).
