Hyderabad:A proposal to construct a four-lane steel elevated corridor over the Amrabad tiger reserve moved one step closer towards getting off the ground with a team of officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) conducting a preliminary technical assessment of the project after a field visit on Wednesday. The 54-km-long proposed corridor, if taken up, will ‘fly’ over the forest that forms the core area of the tiger reserve. The corridor is expected to start near Brahmanapally, around three km from Mannanur, that forms the gateway to the reserve, and land near Eegalapenta, close to River Krishna and the Srisailam dam. The NHAI officials, accompanied by two WII technical experts, and after an inspection of the road, met with the Nagarkurnool district forest officer Revanth Chandra, and field level officers of the reserve at Domalapenta. Further decisions on the corridor will be taken only after comprehensive technical studies, scientific analyses, environmental and wildlife impact assessments, and detailed evaluations of the forest land requirements, Revanth Chandra said.
