The National Institute of Design (NID), Amaravati, on Wednesday organised a series of events to promote handloom fabrics and encourage young people to appreciate India's rich weaving heritage as part of the 12th National Handloom Day celebrations. The programme featured a handloom fashion show by NID students, design competitions, handloom exhibitions, live weaving demonstrations, quiz contests and saree draping competitions. He said National Handloom Day, observed annually on August 7, commemorates the Swadeshi Movement of 1905 and honours the contribution of India's handloom weavers to preserving the country's textile and cultural heritage. Anas Shah said the objective was to create awareness about genuine handloom products, encourage young people to appreciate traditional weaving techniques and promote greater use of handloom textiles. He emphasised the need to preserve and promote the country's handloom heritage through innovation and sustainable design.
