The iconic 1980 comedy movie Bill Murray wanted nothing to do with: “It’s not for me”Ever since his Saturday Night Live days, Bill Murray had been anointed as a comedy superstar in the making, and he did that without adding an all-time classic to his resume fresh off the bat. Well, technically, he did, but he could have starred in another movie that’s arguably even better, and was released in the same year, too. Not that it prevented him from reaching the top, though, with the sardonic star making it look like conquering big-screen comedy was the easiest thing in the world. “The studio wanted Bill Murray or Chevy Chase, the reigning comic actors at the time,” the Zucker brothers confirmed. Fortunately for them, Murray felt the same way, but if you’re going to miss out on Airplane!, making Caddyshack instead is a good compromise.
