The forgotten 1984 movie Robin Williams was always proud of: “It’s my best all-round film”After he became one of the most popular and iconic movie stars of his era, it became increasingly easy to forget that it took Robin Williams longer than he would have liked to become a big-screen staple.
However, after swapping the stage for the screen and leaving Mork & Mindy behind, it wasn’t as if Williams simply rocketed toward the A-list.
His first leading role in a picture didn’t go too well, either, with Robert Altman’s Popeye beset by drug-induced chaos.
Williams’ Academy Award-nominated turn was his ninth appearance in a movie, and ten years into his cinematic forays, he’d finally struck gold.
It was a decent enough hit among the ticket-buying public, with the fish-out-of-water story winning Williams his best notices as a movie-calibre lead.
