Despite a record-low snowpack and drought conditions throughout the region, wheat yields in Umatilla and Morrow counties are expected to be no worse than average, according to the Oregon Wheat Growers League. Amanda Hoey, chief executive officer for the Oregon Wheat Commission and Oregon Wheat Growers League, said crops are looking good. “We are seeing a very healthy crop of winter wheat,” Hoey said. Most of the state’s wheat is winter wheat planted in September and October and harvested in July and August. “We’re going to have some pretty good yields and we’re going to have some pretty bad yields,” Wysocki said.
