New trans guidance on single-sex spaces has come into force the week Perthshire Pride hosts its scaled back celebrations curtailed by protest fears.
Perthshire event scaled backPerthshire Pride organisers took the decision to downsize its event on August 8 due to fears that anti-transgender protesters would disrupt the event.
Speaking to The Courier last month, Perthshire Pride chairperson Jack Simpson, said: “There’s been a lot of right-wing protests in Perth, and I know that they’re starting to aim it towards the transgender community.”
‘Inclusive and tolerant approach’On a visit to Dundee on Wednesday, The Courier asked First Minister John Swinney how the Scottish Government would approach the new guidance given the fears of organisations like Perthshire Pride.
The scaled back Perthshire Pride will take place on Saturday with a parade through the city followed by an afterparty at Ice Factory.
