The James Beard Foundation has recognized Detroit Chef Doug Hewitt of Freya and Chartreuse Kitchen & Cocktails as a one-to-watch chef across the nation in its 2026-27 TasteTwenty class.
in Detroit, will host a Taste America dinner on Sept. 30.
This $200-a-plate dinner will highlight Hewitt along with chefs Joe Giacomino and John Vermiglio from Grey Ghost restaurant.
"As both Chartreuse and Grey Ghost celebrate 10 years, this collaboration honors two restaurants that have helped shape Detroit's culinary renaissance over the past decade," Flaherty Haber said.
James Beard Foundation CEO Clare Reichenbach said the dinner offers a chance to support independent restaurants.
