Three people have been killed and three others injured after an explosion at a tailings site in Aboso near Tarkwa, with police investigations suggesting the blast may have been triggered by improperly stored explosives.
The Western Central Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into the incident, which occurred around midday on Tuesday, August 4.
According to preliminary information from investigators, workers at the site discovered a python and informed the owner of the facility, David Kofi Fletcher.
Police believe that after a gunshot was fired, pellets from the weapon hit explosive materials suspected to have been stored unlawfully at the site, causing the explosion.
The Police Command has warned against the illegal possession, storage, handling and sale of explosives, stressing that such practices pose serious risks to communities and public safety.
