Communities along Ghana’s White Volta River have been placed on alert over possible flooding following indications that Burkina Faso may release excess water from the Bagre Dam next week. The early warning is intended to allow communities, local authorities and emergency response agencies to prepare ahead of any possible spillage. The WRC has urged residents living along the White Volta River and nearby communities to remain alert and follow safety directives from the relevant authorities. Previous controlled releases from the Bagre Dam have caused flooding in parts of northern Ghana, destroying homes, affecting farms and disrupting livelihoods. The Water Resources Commission said it will continue to monitor the dam’s situation and issue further updates as developments unfold.
