VWS volunteers put winter training into action during Kloof Corner fire

What began as a planned winter training exercise for Volunteer Wildfire Services (VWS) volunteers quickly became a real operational response when crews were called to a vegetation fire at Kloof Corner on Sunday, 2 August, Cape {town} Etc reports.
Although winter training is planned to keep volunteers prepared for wildfire incidents, the call-out demonstrated how quickly a training environment can shift into an active response.
According to VWS, this preparation allows volunteers to move from training to an operational response when required.
VWS volunteers work alongside partner agencies and municipalities across the Western Cape as part of broader wildfire suppression and incident management efforts.
As a volunteer organisation, VWS relies on community donations to help maintain these capabilities.
