William Hamilton drove a vehicle at an excessive speed along streets in the town including Artillery Park, Traprain Terrace, Dunbar Road and the A199 near to Letham Holdings on August 8, 2024. The 27-year-old was eventually stopped, apprehended and charged, and he appeared in the dock at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last Wednesday. Sheriff John Cook sentenced Hamilton, of Walden Terrace, Gifford, to a community payback order where he will be supervised by the social work department for the next 24 months. He was also ordered to carry out 220 hours of unpaid work and banned from driving for five years. Sheriff Cook also said that Hamilton must sit and pass the extended driving test before he is allowed back on the road.
