The Comedy Central series opened its audition vault Wednesday as part of its 30th anniversary celebration, releasing rare footage of the five future correspondents trying out for Jon Stewart and Trevor Noah. The material was generally drawn from the show’s own scripts, allowing producers to judge a performer’s delivery, timing and chemistry with the host rather than their ability to write in The Daily Show’s voice. Jessica Williams’ audition includes a clip of Wile E. Coyote falling from a cliff—one that Stewart finds less than convincing. Wood joined the show in 2015 as part of its transition from Stewart to Noah. Che joined The Daily Show in 2014 while working as a writer at Saturday Night Live.
