Like many people, I’ve seen the effects of climate change firsthand. I started noticing other climate change impacts, like a local lake that was a quarter of its usual size. Standing where dense rainforest had been only two years earlier, it became impossible to think of climate change as an abstract future threat. Many people point to cars, cows and industry when they think about climate change, but the world’s single biggest emitter of greenhouse gases is the building industry. Climate change is a global problem, but the choices we make at home are among the few parts of it that we, as individuals, can control.
