The UK's police watchdog has ruled that Metropolitan Police Sergeant Martyn Blake will not face misconduct proceedings over the fatal shooting of Chris Kaba, marking the latest and likely final disciplinary development in one of Britain's most closely watched police use-of-force cases.
At the time, the watchdog said the lower civil standard used in misconduct proceedings meant a disciplinary hearing should still go ahead.
However, the UK government has since amended the rules so that police use-of-force misconduct cases are assessed using the same criminal standard applied in court.
After reviewing the legislative changes and updated Home Office guidance, the IOPC said Blake's case no longer meets the threshold for misconduct proceedings.
Johnson added that the watchdog had "carefully considered" the new framework before deciding disciplinary proceedings should not continue.
