(Bloomberg) -- The New Mexico attorney general's office is accusing top officials in the US Justice Department of refusing to fully aid a state criminal investigation into the late, disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein and his associates. According to the complaint, New Mexico entered into an agreement with the Justice Department in 2019 to pause Epstein-related state investigations while federal authorities completed their work. State officials claimed in the lawsuit that Justice Department officials rejected their formal requests for unredacted materials, citing privacy concerns related to victims and court-enforced confidentiality orders related to past prosecutions against Epstein and his longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell. "New Mexico has a duty to protect survivors and investigate crimes committed in our state so that perpetrators can be held accountable," Torrez said in a statement. Their delay is actively hurting our criminal investigation and delaying justice Epstein survivors deserve."
