Angela Rayner is facing the threat of legal action over new bathroom rules for trans people. The Housing Secretary has been warned she faces a judicial review over guidance issued by the UK equalities watchdog, which forces trans people to use bathrooms corresponding to their biological sex. Campaigners at the Good Law Project, founded by Jolyon Maugham KC, say the code – which came into force on Wednesday – is "transphobic". The Good Law Project said: "The Government's transphobic statutory guidance is now in force, telling organisations that provide services – like clubs, gyms and cookery classes – they can no longer be trans inclusive. The trans guidance, from the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), was introduced after the Supreme Court ruled last year that "sex" referred to a person's biological sex rather than their chosen gender.
