Grande-Marlaska attributed the mass crossings to human trafficking networks, online disinformation, and the misuse of social media, backing Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Morocco’s Interior Ministry’s explanations. “Minister Grande-Marlaska reiterated today the important role Morocco has played in ensuring that the situation in Ceuta is under control,” EU Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner told reporters after a meeting of the bloc’s 27 interior ministers.
