The 64-year-old man who was critically injured in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 11 in Kea‘au last week has passed away. On July 30, Puna Patrol officers responded to a report of a collision involving a motorcycle and a vehicle at between the Macadamia Nut Road and Kipimana Street intersections. Gouveia was transported to the Hilo Benioff Medical Center for treatment before he was medivacked to the Queen’s Medical Center on Oahu where he succumbed to his injuries on August 3. Police believe speed and inattention were contributing factors to the collision.
