Firefighters are at the scene of the incident in Loamy Hill Road in Tolleshunt Major, near Maldon. A spokesman for Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said: "Around 100 tonnes of compost is alight, so it is producing lots of smoke which can be seen from miles away. "Thank you to everyone who has called us. "Please avoid the area while our crews deal with the incident."
