He hasn't played since 2024 due to injuries and an ongoing dispute over the contract keeping him in San Francisco through 2028. The news that Diggs is signing with the Commanders may come as a disappointment to Aiyuk, who has repeatedly stated on social media he wants to be released from his contract so he can play for Washington. Aiyuk posted a photo of himself wearing a Commanders hat as recently as the day before Diggs' signing. Although Aiyuk might not have a path forward with the Niners or Commanders, there could be teams willing to give him a chance in light of their need for wide receiving depth.
