The Calcutta High Court on Wednesday dismissed TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee’s plea to travel abroad for eye treatment, citing the ongoing proceedings in the criminal cases against him.
The matter was taken up after the Supreme Court directed the High Court to dispose of Banerjee’s application within a week.
She also cited previous instances where Banerjee was allowed to travel abroad for treatment in cases initiated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The HC bench, in response, said that there are other cases pending against the TMC national general secretary and his travel would affect the proceedings.
“It is certainly necessary for Abhishek Banerjee to receive medical treatment.
