Thanks to a recent string of chilly nights, the Yellowstone River is chilling out—literally. Water temperatures at Carter’s Bridge are hovering between 61° and 68°, and the local fish population is officially back in business. According to the latest word from the water, via Yellowstone Angler’s August 4, 2026 report, “Cooler night temps have brought water temps down. “There is still a Hootowl restriction on the lower Yellowstone from the HWY 89 bridge to HWY 212 (Laurel). As the report dryly notes: “Take water temps a few times a day, if the river is above 70 degrees, you might consider calling it a day anyway, (regardless of the hootowl).”
