Norwich Research Park's John Innes Centre was awarded funding earlier this year.
Precision breeding techniques to bring new foods to market were given the green light in England with new legislation being introduced in 2025.
Totalling £21.5m, the Defra funding will enable 15 research-industry collaborations across the country to harness precision breeding techniques.
