Knox County has become the latest in Ohio to implement Next Generation 9‑1‑1, marking a major step in the state’s expansion of lifesaving emergency technology. The Ohio Department of Administrative Services confirmed that Knox County went live with NG9‑1‑1 on July 30, making it the 22nd county in the state to adopt the system. According to J.C. Benton, spokesperson for the Ohio Department of Administrative Services, NG9‑1‑1 allows citizens to text, use smartwatches, and other wearable devices to contact 911. The Office of First Responder Communications Initiatives within DAS is overseeing Ohio’s long‑term migration to Next Generation 9‑1‑1. The next priority is full integration of the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources into the system.
