Who could blame her for seeking a quieter life away from the UK and the glare of her parents’ scandal? In the normal run of things, we could have expected this once tight-knit family of Andrew, Sarah, Beatrice and Eugenie to gather and gurgle around the latest arrival as soon as possible. It seems unlikely, then, that either of the proud grandparents will fetch up in Portugal, at least not openly. The debate about whether Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and his descendants should be removed from this list is ongoing. And it’s probably another reason why Eugenie and her family are much happier in Portugal.
