However, if Mofokeng's side are eliminated by Bodø/Glimt in the third qualifying round next week, their hopes of playing European football will not be over. As per UEFA regulations, elimination from the Champions League at this stage would see Union SG drop into the UEFA Europa League. Union SG's next three matches will determine whether they play in the UEFA Champions League or the UEFA Europa League this season. Should they lose both their remaining Champions League qualifier and the subsequent Europa League play-off, they would then compete in the UEFA Conference League league phase.
