The European Union’s Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) Regulation is widely regarded as one of the world’s most comprehensive and influential pieces of chemicals legislation.
Nearly two decades later, the REACH Regulation continues to evolve in response to emerging scientific evidence and new environmental challenges.
None has proved more significant than per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), a vast group of synthetic chemicals whose persistence in the environment has earned them the nickname “forever chemicals”.
