The Deputy Mayor for Environment at the Juba City Council has warned that individuals found illegally dumping garbage will face arrest, saying waste management is a shared responsibility between residents and the city authorities.
“We want to send a message that garbage management is everyone’s responsibility, not the City Council alone.
We collect garbage and clear the roads, but after we leave, some residents dump waste again and accuse the government of not doing its work,” he said.
Lomude said the council would no longer tolerate improper waste disposal and announced plans to deploy personnel to enforce the city’s sanitation regulations.
He urged residents to play their part in keeping Juba clean, saying maintaining a healthy environment requires cooperation between the public and the city authorities.
