PlayMatters is a global education initiative targeting crisis-affected regions to enhance the well-being and academic development of children aged 3 to 12. The program seeks to strengthen the national education system by promoting active teaching and learning through playful, structured methodologies. “If PlayMatters is well implemented, this can help the foundational learning on literacy and numeracy. The initiative comes at a critical time for South Sudan, where reports indicate that over 2.8 million children—more than 70 percent of the school-age population—are currently out of school. “The program will respond to complex education needs in South Sudan because access is just one of the problems in front of us as a sector.
