THE NUMBER of young Scots students attending university will reach a record high after a successful exam results day. A record high of 17,920 18 year-olds in Scotland will attend university this year which has seen an increase of almost 600 from last year. The figure also sees the highest number of 18 year-olds from deprived areas attending university. 2,090, an increase of 7%, 18 year-olds from those areas is the record number. Education Secretary Màiri McAllan believes the figures demonstrates the ability of the country’s education system.
