ENCINITAS — For the second year in a row, an Encinitas surfer emerged from the water at the U.S. Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, triumphantly hoisted onto the shoulders of supporters.
In the final, Marshall faced Kanoa Igarashi, 28.
In addition to Slawson, Marshall joins Rob Machado as U.S. Open champions from Encinitas.
“Now, I’m just getting chaired up at the most prestigious event in the world, and I’m just so grateful.”
“Just keep getting to tomorrow,” Kerr said.
