After just seven days on the big screen, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has already supplanted “Toy Story 5” as the highest-grossing movie of the year.
Sony and Marvel’s web-slinging sequel, starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, has generated $1.155 billion to date, including $449 million domestically and $706.3 million internationally.
“Brand New Day” delivered the highest-grossing Monday with $47 million, besting the high record set by 2018’s “Black Panther” with $40 million.
Only 2019’s Marvel mashup “Avengers: Endgame,” with a mind-boggling $1.2 billion worldwide in three days, got there faster.
That’s on top of “Brand New Day” securing the biggest domestic debut in box office history with $360 million, as well as the second-largest global debut of all time with $932 million.
