A piece of a SpaceX rocket floating in space for the last 12 months is set to collide with the moon on Wednesday morning. The four-tonne object is the second stage of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket which was launched from Firefly Aerospace towards the moon in January 2025. The rocket stage has since disposed of its remaining fuel, and is not controllable by scientists on the ground.
