Sounds Local: ‘It’s a cosmic thing’: Rebranded Charlemont Roots Reggae Festival brings international lineup this Saturday

The Charlemont Roots Reggae Festival returns this weekend on Saturday, Aug. 8 from noon to 10 p.m. at the Charlemont Fairgrounds.
Abdul Baki would later establish the Charlemont Reggae Festival in 1997, and it has endured over the years becoming a popular annual event.
Local reggae musician Shanti Starr of Wendell returns at the helm of the Charlemont Roots Reggae Festival.
Because it’s a new era for the long-running festival, Starr has rebranded it the Charlemont Roots Reggae Festival.
One of the headliners of the Charlemont Roots Reggae Festival, Prince Negasi from Portmore, Jamaica, mixes roots reggae, hip-hop, R&B and traditional African influences.
