Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc. has removed potentially contaminated jalapeños from its supply chain following the onset of an investigation by public health authorities into a Salmonella outbreak in Minnesota and other states. The Minnesota Department of Health said on Tuesday that it had identified 110 cases in the state connected to several Mexican-style, quick-service restaurants, including Chipotle, the Wall Street Journal reported. In a statement released Tuesday afternoon, Chipotle said it was cooperating with public health officials and removing the peppers from restaurants “out of an abundance of caution.” The chain’s stock closed Aug. 4 down nearly 10%, but shares bounced back the following day. In midday trading, shares were up today 3.4% to $34.97 apiece with a market cap of $44 billion (NYSE: CMG).
