That began Kaiser’s long stint in the shelter — one of the longest times for any animal at the shelter. Schmidt and Footer met Kaiser and started to become attached, and even more so when they heard his story. “I’m not sure why a lot of people didn’t want to adopt Kaiser,” Muller said. Through their visits with Kaiser, Schmidt and Footer learned the dog did not like men, constantly barking if men get too close to him.
