According to Adeleke, the state received a letter from its banker notifying it of an EFCC directive placing a restriction on the government’s accounts. “We received a letter from our banker forwarding a letter from the EFCC directing the bank to freeze the Osun State Government account. Also speaking, the Osun State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwole Jimi-Bada (SAN), confirmed that he had been directed by the governor to challenge the EFCC’s action in court. While acknowledging the commission’s powers to investigate financial transactions, he argued that it lacked the authority to freeze a state government’s accounts without first obtaining an order of a competent court. Earlier, the state government had alleged that the EFCC was planning to freeze all Osun State government accounts as well as those of senior government officials.
